Media Check is a resource for young people in the ACT.
It’s a place where 14- to 18-year-olds can explore what they see in the media and how it affects them.
Every day, thousands of media messages reach us - through reality TV, advertisements, fashion magazines - telling us how we should look, how we should live, how we should feel and who we should be.
Almost all of these media message are about telling us what we should buy. Young people have buying power they’ve never had before, and media hype aimed at YOU is big business for advertisers and corporations.
Do you want to enjoy what you watch, but understand how images are manipulated? Do you want to be able to resist stereotypes that may not be good for you?
We have put together a collection of articles and links to interesting websites here.
Do you have something to say about images in the media and your health and wellbeing?
Media Check can help you have fun challenging negative media stereotypes. Using our tools you can create and publish your own messages about health and wellbeing.
Media Check was created through the generous support of Healthpact. The project itself is run by Mental Illness Education ACT, a well-known promoter of mental health programs for young people.
